ABOUT OUR PEARLS

Freshwater pearls

The unique ability of the mussel Hyriopsis cumingi to grow dozens of pearls at once makes freshwater pearls more affordable than saltwater pearls. As a result, freshwater pearls are most often used in jewelry and range in size from 2 to 9 mm in diameter.
Natural colors of freshwater pearls include white, cream, and many shades of pink, from the softest peach to rich lavender. Gray and black colors of freshwater pearls are achieved through dyeing.
The most commonly used shapes of freshwater pearls in the jewelry industry are symmetrical, spherical, oval, baroque, teardrop, and button. The most valuable freshwater pearl is the round pearl, as this shape is the rarest to form.

Baroque pearls

A baroque pearl is a pearl with an irregular, asymmetrical shape, unlike classic round or symmetrical pearls. These pearls can range from slightly oval to completely unique and organic in shape.
Baroque pearls occur in both freshwater and saltwater pearls, but they are more common among freshwater pearls because they are more often formed without a perfectly round nucleus.
Their unique shapes make them popular in modern jewelry design where a more natural and artistic feel is desired. They can be small and subtle or large and dramatic – always with their own charm!

Edison beads

This freshwater pearl is named after the famous American scientist and inventor Thomas Edison, who once said, "There are two things you can't get in my laboratory – diamonds and pearls."
Since 2014, Edison pearls have been grown on an industrial scale on pearl farms in China.
The process of growing Edison pearls is kept strictly secret. However, one thing is known: a new type of freshwater pearl, produced by crossbreeding, is used in the cultivation.
Unlike regular freshwater pearls, which are cultured using the Hyriopsis cumingi mussel, the Edison pearl grows alone. This, combined with a perfectly spherical implant nucleus, allows it to reach a diameter of 16 mm – an unprecedented size for freshwater pearls.
Edison beads have a characteristic rich metallic luster and a beautiful round shape.
